Silver Rose Program
2021 Silver Rose Program
This program began in 1960 by the Columbian Squires of North America to give back to Our Lady of Guadalupe for all she did for her people in Mexico.
They came up with the idea of running a rose to the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Monterrey, Mexico. The rose was chosen to commemorate Juan Diego and the miracle of the roses.
In 2001 Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson expanded the program by beginning the Running of the Rose, from the 119th Annual Meeting of the Supreme Council in Toronto.
Through the Silver Rose Program, we honor not only Our Lady of Guadalupe and express the unity of the Knights of Columbus, but also reaffirm our dedication to the sanctity of human life.
This year there are eight roses moving across North America. On February 27th one rose will start out in Manitoba. Canada, from there it enters the US into North Dakota. On April 19th it will enter Minnesota ( either from Fargo or East Grand Forks) and exit into South Dakota on May 23. It will travel through 6 more states, before entering Mexico and arriving in Monterrey , Mexico on Dec. 12th for the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
This program is a lot like the Marion Hour of Prayer.
The complete program takes about one hour, but in the interest of time , readings and a homily can be omitted.
I would like to see it moved across northern part of the state, and heading south on the eastern side of the state and then traveling across the southern part of the state, before entering South Dakota on May 23rd.
Please consider holding this program in your area.
It can be held in church, council meeting place or even a home.
Let me know ASAP if you are interested, so I can get you on the schedule.
Our goal is to hold as many services throughout the state of Minnesota.
If you need more information, contact me by phone or e-mail.
Last year it was canceled during the time we were to have it in our state.
I believe the state is open enough for it to take place safely this year.
Thank you in advance for your consideration!
