Hutchinson Knights help with Food Distribution

Common Cup Ministry  hosted a free food distribution from 4-6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, at the McLeod County Fairgrounds in Hutchinson, MN. Entrance to the fairgrounds was only via the south gate off of Airport Road, coming from the east off of State Highway 15.

Volunteers from different charitable organizations helped with the different aspects of distribution.  Knights from St. John’s Council #4797 in Hutchinson took care of parking almost 500 cars prior to the start of distribution and then helped get them in line for the food boxes.

Each household received prepackaged boxes of produce, dairy and meat through a drive-up/curbside pick-up model. Food was loaded into trunks by volunteers who maintained social distance. No registration or paperwork was necessary and only basic demographic information was asked of participants such as the ages of individuals in the household. No names, addresses or other identifying information was asked.

Food for this event was provided from the COVID Food Assistance Program for farmers, ranchers and other food producers managed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The program provides assistance to producers of agricultural commodities and channels food to food banks, community, tribal and faith-based organizations, and other nonprofits serving those in need.
